Love, Little Ones & Laughs at Peckham
One of the foundations of God's perfect plan for our lives on earth is the family structure, and there is no surprise that today - across the globe - our families are under attack in various ways. Wayward children, unbelieving spouses, divorces, single parent families, being separated from loved ones by death. Does God still care about our families? Of course he does!
Between 2nd and 16th June, Evangelist Dexter Thomas (Trinidad and Tobago via USA) encouraged and blessed families in Peckham and the community with messages under the theme of 'Reclaim, Restore & Anoint Your Family'. Aside from the presentations that touched on real and sometimes sensitive issues, participants had the opportunity to be involved in a vow renewal ceremony for married couples as well as an anointing service for our children where parents and carers spoke words of affirmation to their children - young or old.
At the heart of all the inspirational messages and commitment services was God. The congregation was solemnly reminded that "He [head of the house] and all his family were devout and God-fearing; he gave generously to those in need and prayed to God regularly." Acts 10:2. (NIV) Pastor Dexter Thomas shared that praying faithfully and fervently was the key to success in the family. He gave us the praying formula that he uses in all areas of his life to stay consistently connected to God. He gave us the praying formula that he uses in all areas of his life to stay consistently connected to God 'the seven W's.
The series closed on Father's Day, 17th June, with a stand-up comedy show with holy humour by the 'Blind Evangelist', one of Pastor Dexter Thomas' many pseudonyms. 'Laughing To Live in London' was a huge success, with over 130 attendees travelling from across London and beyond seeking to experience the proverbial 'best medicine'.
Resident Pastor, Dr. Steve Thomas (no relation to the Evangelist) said, "It has been refreshing to have Pastor Dexter come and speak to our congregation. My leadership team and I are 100% committed to growing and strengthening the families we have in Peckham and the new ones to come. Moreover we want our children to be grounded and committed to Christ to hasten his soon coming."
The Peckham SDA Family Ministries department did an exceptional job at introducing these groundbreaking events and are looking forward to hosting more opportunities for Christian fellowship.
