To address this urgent issue, One Vision charity has partnered with Macmillan Cancer Support to launch the Cancer Champions Programme in Watford and the Three Rivers District. This initiative is crucial in tackling health inequalities by reaching out to all community groups, especially underserved populations.
The Need for Community Cancer Champions
Each year, a staggering 393,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer. On average, someone in the UK is diagnosed with cancer at least every 90 seconds (Macmillan website: Cancer statistics in the UK). The widespread impact of cancer underscores the critical need for increased awareness, support, and early diagnosis.
Why People of Faith Are Essential
Faith communities have always been a cornerstone of support in times of need. We are calling on people of faith to step forward and become Community Cancer Champions. Your involvement can help bridge the gap in health inequalities and provide much-needed support to those affected by cancer in our community.
Training and Support
No prior experience is necessary to become a Cancer Champion. We will provide comprehensive training to equip you with the knowledge and skills needed to make a positive impact. You will be part of a supportive network of volunteers committed to making a difference in the lives of those affected by cancer.
