Church Picnic Reunites Belmarsh Prison Families at Greenwich Park

The Prison Ministry team from Lewisham Church organised a heartwarming picnic at Greenwich Park for residents of Belmarsh Prison and their families. This event provided an opportunity for these individuals to reconnect with their loved ones in a relaxed and supportive environment. The picnic was filled with joy, singing, laughter, and meaningful conversations, as families enjoyed a day of sunshine and fellowship.

The event was not just about food and games; it was a chance for the residents and their families to experience the love and support of the wider church community. The Lewisham Church team, led by Sister Barbara Robinson-Perry, ensured that everyone felt welcomed and cared for, creating an atmosphere of acceptance and hope. Many families expressed their gratitude for the opportunity to spend quality time together, a rare and precious occasion for those separated by incarceration.

Lewisham Church has been integral in supporting the reintegration process. The picnic allowed these individuals to share their experiences, offer each other encouragement, and enjoy a day out with their loved ones. The positive atmosphere at the event was a testament to the power of God working through the community and the ongoing support that these individuals receive from the church.

In addition to the picnic, there was a special service at Chelmsford Prison, where they were joined by new members of the prison ministry from various churches, including Harlow, Southend, Grays, and Braintree. This service was a significant occasion, marked by the presence of a preacher who travelled from Oxford to deliver an inspiring message.

The service at Chelmsford Prison was a blessing to all who attended, particularly the inmates who were deeply touched by the words of encouragement and the spirit of unity brought by the diverse group of church members. The new members of the prison ministry brought fresh energy and commitment, and their involvement was warmly received by both the existing team and the prison residents.

The collective effort of these churches demonstrates the powerful impact that faith-based support can have on individuals within the prison system. The event was a reminder of the ongoing need for such ministries and the transformative power of love, compassion, and community.
