Reading Angaza Church Celebrates 17th Anniversary
For Reading Angaza SDA Church, Saturday 6th July 2024 was a day of jubilation and reflection for two particular reasons:
First, the church celebrated its 17th anniversary since its inauguration in 2007. Second, the United Nations General Assembly—the main policymaking body of the UN—last week adopted a historic resolution proclaiming 7th July as World Kiswahili Language Day.
Bearing in mind that Reading Angaza is a Swahili-speaking church, such a proclamation is a significant push towards spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ to all nations, kindreds, and tongues at another level. The worship service for the day saw people in large and diverse numbers, with the attendance of important government officials adding to the day's dynamics. Among the invited guests was H. E. Mbelwa Brighton Kairuki, Tanzania High Commissioner in London, who was accompanied by his government colleagues, Nguse Nyerere and Ally Mtanda, to name a few.
H.E. Kairuki commended the great work invested in the first and second generations of Swahili-speaking immigrants in the diaspora. His salutation concluded with a special prayer offered for the serving government officials. This was led by Pr Sam Ngui, accompanied by ordained elders and pastors who encircled the officials on their knees.
During the offertory, a special appeal was made to support the 'Centre of Influence Project,' which was launched last year, 2023, by Dr Emmanuel Ossei during the 16th anniversary. Lo and behold, a total amount of £10,000 was raised on the day. We continue to pray and believe that what God has begun will be completed. Praise God for His leading.
Reading West SDA Choir, who ministered through music on the day, ushered in the preacher for the hour, Pr Ikwisa Mwasumbi, North England Conference Youth Director. His message, titled 'Prophecy Again!', crowned the morning sessions. Afterward, all attendees were invited to a free fellowship lunch that gave a glimpse of what it means to be around Swahili-speaking communities and their families.
The Pathfinder Drum Corps played a vital role in maintaining discipline and order throughout the day.
Pr Baraka Butoke, the current church pastor at Reading Angaza, cannot thank everyone enough for making the day 'A Day to Remember!' and welcomes everyone to Reading Angaza SDA Church.
